What hunting would look like.......

Hunting, the killing of an unsuspecting sentient being, often from ambush is not a sport. It is a deplorable activity which promotes the notion that causing death is "recreation" or "sport".

In addition, about 1,000 human animals are injured or killed inadvertently each year because of hunting.

In Defense of Animals reports that:
With an arsenal of rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, handguns, bows and arrows, hunters kill more than 200 million animals yearly - crippling, orphaning, and harassing millions more.
Casting the infliction of pain and death on a living being as "sport" or pleasure is one of the more egregious examples of the bizarre and degrading  distortions that masquerade as "truth" or reality  about human interactions with other animals in our very strange culture.

This video shows what deer hunting might look like if it were actually a "contest".
If human animals went out and engaged in contests with other animals without cheating by using weapons or tools, it is likely that interest in doing such would not last long.

What's (I think) even worse are the ones who are hunted who are not unsuspecting. Fox hunts are just one that come to mind. ALL hunting is horrible and anyone doing it is incredibly ignorant. Weapon use is entirely cheating and there are so many natural animals who are hunted who would easily kill the human hunter if the human hunter didn't have a weapon. Oh, and isn't it nice how humans have taken dogs and made them part of our 'sport'? Another topic that makes me mad.

BTW, I LOVE THAT VIDEO!!! I've seen it before. I don't even laugh when I watch it like other folks who saw it with me did. I just feel really happy and very proud of that deer. I do kind of chuckle though - more of a chuckle of pleasure than of humor.

Man the dominator. Man the hunter. Man the predator. What malarkey! Hunters now have so much equipment, scent baits, all terrain vehicles, spotting scopes, high powered rifles, cammo, gps systems... and on and on... Nothing at all is a "contest".

Quick story: Hunter tells wife proudly "I'm putting meat on the table"... She calculates all his expenses - turns out the "meat on the table" runs about $65 a pound!

No... It's not the food they're after. Nor the "bonding with nature" - It's the kill they enjoy. Can any be more loathsome than this?

Thanks for commenting Krissa. I had not seen the video but thought it was a hoot.

Thanks for commenting Bea. I agree, the behavior is killing for pleasure and recreation....not hunting and it is indeed loathsome.

Actually, that video is from a show called "When Animals Attack" which infuriates me because when an "animal" DEFENDS itself against a human, it's considered attacking - not just on that show but in real life as well. Looking at that video, I imagine all the deer and all the farmed 'livestock' (what a nice word, eh?) and other deer-like creatures that humans have tortured and killed and I just think "YOU GO, Mr. Deer!!!! Get back at 'them' for all of you.". Too bad all the "Mr. Deers" don't get that chance.

Hi Krissa... That's an excellent point! Reminds me of the quote by
Axel Munthe
“The wild, cruel animal is not behind the bars of a cage. He is in front of it.”

So sad. If man kills it's a sport - If an animal defends themselves... They're perceived as "mad". :/

Thanks for the quote, Bea. I'm going to google Axel Munthe now. He sounds like a good guy.
