"By-product".....

this video (no graphic images) came from Farm Sanctuary and shows three baby cows who were the result of the "artificial insemination" (rape - penetration without consent) of their mothers who were dairy (previous post) cows.

Their mothers were impregnated (against their will and for the benefit of the dairy owner) so they would continue to produce milk. The babies were not wanted and were immediately taken from their mothers and sent to a place where they were to be sold. The Farm Rescue folks happened to be at that particular place and saved these three cow children.

For you who continue to use cow milk, cow cheese, cow milk ice cream, etc (or any milk product from an animal)...take a look at your victims...these are the babies you condemn. Without the intervention of Farm Sanctuary they would be dead by now. For you who are more compassionate...take a look at some delightful cow babies.

You can read more about Blitzen, Lawrence and Alexander here.

Dairy is simply a code word for suffering and death, a code word for mothers impregnated against their will and mothers who have their children taken from them, a code word for the killing of babies for profit or convenience......You have been lied to.......Milk is not harmless, butter is not just "tasty", ice cream is not just sweet...each means that mothers and babies are crying and grieving, separated by force, babies chained and living briefly in darkness and with inadequate nutrition (veal), death, "artificial insemination" (rape).

Dairy is pleasure for no one with any sense of decency or compassion. Dairy is a word that should evoke repugnance and disgust.

Changing how you eat is a pitifully small effort to make to halt the enormity of the suffering and misery endured by Blitzen, Lawrence, Alexander and the millions of other cow babies and cow mothers. Is that too much to ask? Please, go vegan, and stop participating in this unspeakable cruelty.

This breaks my heart. Sitting here with tears in my eyes. The farm sanctuary spokesperson's words, ..."the bidding just kept going down until it was a dollar. No one wanted these babies." How awful what the babies suffer. I am surprised they do well at all after what they've been through. Imagine a newborn human infant taken from its mom at birth and put in an auction and the bidding going down to a dollar. For years I didn't know what veal is. When I found out what it is and what they do to these little babies to get veal it made me sick to my stomach and very angry. I don't need milk, don't even like it. Rice milk is a very good substitute. You are so right VE, giving up dairy is the very least I can do. Informing ourselves concerning our food sources is wise - for our health if nothing else. But just as important is what the baby calves suffer. Those babies' suffering is not right - it is horribly wrong. And those moms in perpetual grief is plain tortue. I am so sorry little ones.

Thanks for commenting Murph's mom. I hurt for all, mom and the little ones.

Blitzen did, however, put on some fine baby cow binkies...

The "dairy" industry is so horrifying and yet so many seem unwilling to believe that. When I lived in SoCal in 2004 there was a commercial that said something like "the best cheese comes from happy cows" and of course they convinced the ignorant masses that dairy cows are happy and live on lush green hills spending their days frolicking. It is so disgusting that it's legal for them to false advertise. I am pretty sure if a company who uses sweatshop human kids to make clothes had a commercial saying "great clothes come from happy kids" and showed a bunch of 9 year olds smiling and happily dancing around making clothes, they'd get prosecuted for that. Cow's milk is not even suitable for human consumption. And they fill it with hormones and antibiotics... Now I'm going to start rambling. But these poor cows. And ever since I was in a way adopted by my cow friend (now dead because she was grown for 'meat') it hits me harder with the cows because I know from personal experience that they really are very, very aware of what is going on. They are extremely intelligent (even if they weren't, that doesn't mean they should be tortured, but it makes it worse that they are because they suffer that much more mentally) wonderful beings who do not deserve what is done to them by humans. It's the same old thing - most people are disgusted and horrified at the thought of eating a horse (as they should be), but eating a cow is totally acceptable. What the heck is that? They wouldn't drink horse milk either, but cow's milk is good stuff??? ... I always have two feelings when I see the rescues, happiness for them that they are safe and can live life without being tortured - sometimes even being loved - and such a deep sadness for the billions who are not rescued. So much suffering. :( ... Thanks for sharing the video though. At least a few escape the fate humans had planned for them.

What a shock it was for me to learn the truth about dairy! Even as a vegetarian I ate pounds and pounds of cheese a week. Never, ever for one second making the connection to the calves. The industry does an incredible job at deceiving the public.

I have said this many times, that I think such deceit is worthy of litigation - And compensation for all the monies given in support for something I (and most people) would never condone. Perhaps someday I will get lucky and meet an attorney up for that challenge? Think of all the "worthless" calves we could rescue with the settlement?

Seriously, these lies about where milk "comes from" have just got to be exposed!

Thanks for this post. I'm elated for Blitzen, Lawrence and Alexander! Every life deserves this chance.

Thanks Krissa for your comment. Cows are beautiful. I am with you, there is always a bittersweet aspect to seeing a rescue, one cannot help but think of those not rescued. But, as you say...at least a few escape.

Thank you for commenting Bea. I agree, the lies must be exposed. Dairy is such an insidious institution...seemingly harmless but actually vicious and destructive. Seeing an innocent animal killed is easily identified as a wrong...the horror is harder to discern about dairy.

You are correct, every life deserves to be lived the way that living being wishes.

Lovely video. And a lawsuit would be awesome!
