Once again

the eloquent and perceptive pattrice jones has written a piece that must be read by all of us who support and advocate for veganism.

She writes:
Do be the person you were when you let yourself learn things you didn’t want to know about animal abuse. That same courage and willingness to confront discomfort will carry you through and inspire you to learn what you need to learn about racism
However difficult and upsetting it was for you to learn about what we human animals do to our sister/brother Earthlings...diving into learning about the active and ongoing ugliness of white U.S. American racism is just as disconcerting or maybe even more so. But...you can do it. It's painful, it's scary and heart and mind boggling. However, if you're committed to opting out of the oppressions that are presented as "normal"...then it must be done.

If you don't want to do that work...then she tells you what you need to do. Read her post. Please. (Thanks to So I'm Thinking of Going Vegan for linking to her blog too)

I read the article which was very revealing, it is sad that there is such contention among Vegans, people who should be more united in their efforts to make the world a better place for all beings regardless of race gender, species or any other discrimination that we humans can make.

I have to say that the phrase “black lives matter” never for one moment made me think that it implied that the lives of others including animals did not. To make such a connection is ridiculous

The simple fact is that all lives matter. The sad thing is racism makes it necessary to remind people of this whenever it rears its ugly head as racists tend to think the lives of the people that they are prejudice against don’t matter, the same way many many people of all races consider the lives of many of the other species with whom we share this planet don’t matter.

Yes people need telling that Black lives matter, all lives matter. The life of Sandra Bland mattered. A young women with all her life ahead of her died as a result of racism, its shocking and vegans along with those who wish to make the world a better place for all beings should be outraged when such awful things happen instead of making silly comments as the one cited in the article.

All lives matter and as far as I am concerned vegans should be working to wards bringing an end to human injustice and suffering as well as that of other animals.

I can’t understand the mentality of racism or other prejudices. Sadly it seems an innate characteristic in some people and needs recognising and dealing with, for it is in my opinion incongruous to be vegan and ignore the abuse of members if our own species
